If you received our very first newsletter on February 21st, you’re officially part of the A-Tech family; welcome! We are beyond excited to kick off this journey with you, and if you haven’t subscribed yet, now’s the perfect time. At Adaptive Technologies, we are all about transforming lives through adaptive and assistive tech. Today, we are sharing a story that proves just how powerful that can be, and how you can help us make more of them happen.
Meet Jarod. In 2020, at just 20 years old, a devastating accident left him with a C5 and C6 incomplete spinal cord injury. Life as he knew it – pursuing a mechanical engineering degree – shifted overnight. But Jarod’s spirit didn’t break. After 6 and 1/2 weeks at MetroHealth for treatment and rehab, he spent a year at NeuroFit360, pushing his limits with tools like stand up treadmill, a tricycle, and a Rifton Hoyer lift. Those devices rebuilt his confidence, but it was the “Quadstick” – an assistive tech marvel – that brought him back to college. Now 25, Jarod’s studying software engineering, turning his passion for problem-solving into a new path. His motto? “Show your strength through your disability, continue to thrive and live a normal life”.
That’s the kind of transformation we champion at A Tech. Our mission is to enhance quality of life for people with disabilities by connecting them to the right tools – whether it’s mobility aids, speech devices, or innovations like the Quadstick. Our clinicians assess needs, our technicians craft solutions, and individuals like Jarod show us what’s possible when determination meets technology. His journey isn’t just about surviving; it’s about thriving – and it’s stories like his that fuel our work.
But here’s the reality: too many people don’t know these technologies exist or how to access them. That’s why we’ve launched our newsletter – and why this blog matters. In our inaugural issue, you met the heart of A Tech – our clinicians and technicians – and caught a glimpse of Jarod’s resilience. We’re just getting started, with plans for programs, events and more stories to share. Our goal? A future where adaptive tech isn’t a hurdle, but a bridge to Independence for everyone who needs it.
So, how can you get involved? First, subscribe if you haven’t already. Our newsletter’s your window into updates on assistive tech breakthroughs, upcoming events, and ways to connect with our community. Second, spread Jarod’s story, tell a friend or share this post. And if you’re inspired by his grit, consider supporting us. Every bit helps us reach more people, turning challenges into changes to thrive.
